An automatic standby generator is permanently installed outside the home and connected through a transfer switch. When the power goes out, the transfer switch disconnects your home from the grid, the generator starts and takes over the load, and when utility power returns it switches back on its own.
Getting the electrical side right is what makes that safe. The transfer switch keeps generator power from feeding back into the utility lines, and the wiring has to be sized for the load the generator will carry. Daniel handles that part to code, so the system does what it should when you need it.
