Overview

Room to grow, and a panel you can trust

Most homes were wired for the loads of their day. Add an EV charger, a hot tub, a finished basement or a workshop and an older panel runs out of room, or out of capacity. An upgrade replaces the panel, and where needed the service feeding it, so every circuit has a proper breaker and there is room to grow.

Every upgrade is quoted by Daniel himself, done to the Canadian Electrical Code and Alberta requirements, and finished with a clearly labelled directory, so you know what every breaker does.

The details

What is included

  • Load checked before anything is quoted
  • Panel replacement and upsizing
  • Utility shutoffs coordinated for you
  • Surge protection installed if you want it
  • Permit and inspection where required
  • A clean, labelled circuit directory

Daniel completed a full panel replacement for us, coordinated with Fortis for multiple power shutoffs, installed a surge protector, addressed some load concerns, and set up the electrical for our hot tub. He also flagged that our Federal Pioneer Stab-Lok panel was a potential fire hazard, which we had no idea about.

Questions

Common questions about panel upgrades

How do I know if my panel needs upgrading?

Common signs are no spare breaker spaces, breakers that trip under normal use, a panel that runs warm, and plans to add a big load like an EV charger or a finished basement. An older panel type, such as a Federal Pioneer Stab-Lok, is also worth having checked.

Do I need a permit for a panel upgrade in Alberta?

Yes. A panel upgrade is electrical work that needs a permit and an inspection in Alberta. Daniel takes care of the permit, completes the work to the Canadian Electrical Code and Alberta requirements, and arranges the inspection, so you finish with the paperwork rather than a job that was never signed off.

Will my power be off during a panel upgrade?

For part of the job, yes. Replacing a panel means the utility has to disconnect the supply while the new panel goes in and is connected. Daniel coordinates those shutoffs with the utility for you, and you are told the plan before the day, so nothing about it comes as a surprise.
